About the Type 4 Ho-Ro - Self Propelled Gun:
The Type 4 Ho-Ro was a self-propelled gun developed by the Imperial Japanese army during World War II. The chassis, or hull, was taken from the Type 97 and modified for the Ho-Ro. Taking cues from Germany at the time, the Japanese army knew they needed to quickly push a new form of self-propelled gun, as they were losing the war. In 1944, production began and ultimately ended at an estimated 12 units.
The gun was rushed into service and because of this and the lack of forethought, was an ultimate failure. It was never formally organized into any pairing larger than four vehicles. In addition, it was forced into close combat with Allied forces, and had nearly no armor to protect against damage. The design was outdated at the time, and by the time it was pushed into active combat, the Allied forces had significantly more formidable artillery pieces.
