About the T-28 Mod. 1938 – WWII Soviet Medium Tank:
The T-28 medium tank was a Soviet infantry support tank designed to assault fortified defenses. Designed in the early 1930s, the T-28 was an important step in tank development, featuring both modern and quickly outdated elements. The distinctive three-turret design featured a large, central turret with the primary armament, a 76.2 mm gun, and two small turrets with 7.62 mm machineguns. It incorporated radios and anti-aircraft guns in each tank, but it also suffered from thin, flat armor and outdated suspension.
The Soviet tank rumbled into Poland and Finland in the 1939 invasions, and it helped in the defenses of Moscow and Leningrad in 1941. However, by the end of 1941 the T-28 was obsolete and largely removed from combat. Hundreds of Soviet T-28s invaded Finland in the Winter War in 1939. Finnish defenders initially blunted the onslaught, until up-armored T-28s helped the Soviet army break through the Mannerheim Line. The Finns knocked out as many as 200 T-28s during the Winter War and subsequent Continuation War, often putting them back into service under the Finnish flag.
