About the Sd.Kfz 9 "FAMO" with 8.8cm FLAK – WWII German Self-propelled Gun:
The Sd.Kfz 9 “Famo” was an 18-ton behemoth for the German army in the Second World War. Built as a prime mover, this 27-foot long and 9-foot high halftrack towed heavy guns and recovered tanks throughout the war. The Famo was one of Germany’s heaviest halftracks, and its powerful 260 hp engine enabled it to pull heavy loads across rough terrain, from muddy fields to the snowy steppe. Although almost 2,500 were built, the Famo’s usefulness and popularity meant it often was in short supply.
While most Famos featured cargo space on the rear deck, some were converted to an anti-tank role. With an up-armored front crew compartment and the addition of the vaunted 88mm flak gun, these Famos became lethal anti-armor and artillery vehicles. The rear platform had drop-down sides for the gun crew, and outriggers swept out from the sides to provide stability when the powerful gun fired.
