Essential in keeping the RAF’s valuable airfields up and running, the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) filled roles such as weapon assemblers, ship and aircraft builders, mechanics, engineers, and electricians. Using tractor and bomb cart trolleys (such as the one featured in this kit) WAAF crews kept RAF fighters and bombers well-armed through the defense of Britain, and beyond until the end of WWII. Not only was the WAAF essential in British success throughout the war, but it changed the perception of the social status of women, as well as people’s attitudes towards them.
