About the NKL-26 – WWII Armored Aerosan:

Gliding through the snow, out of the forest, and pouncing on unsuspecting supply columns, encampments, and patrols, the NKL-26 Aerosan provided rapid strike capabilities to Soviet and Finnish troops fighting in the early actions of the Second World War. Designed by the Soviets, the NKL-26 Aerosan featured skis and tracks, giving it mobility in snowy and icy difficult terrain. As the skis glided across the snow, the tracks provided traction on both soft snow and hard surfaces. Powered by an aircraft engine, the Aerosan could reach speeds of over 25 mph through firm snow. 

On the Eastern Front, the Aerosan was used for reconnaissance, rapid strikes, and even light artillery transport. It featured a machine-gun and thin armor in the front, and ski-mounted troops could hold on alongside. Rugged and simple, the Aerosan proved useful in the Winter War and Continuation War, as Finnish troops put captured Aerosans to good use. Finnish infantry used NKL-26s to navigate the harsh environment and contest the Soviet invasion.
