About the MUTT M151A1 – 1/4 Ton 4x4 Utility Truck:

The M151 Military Utility Tactical Truck—MUTT—was the ubiquitous general purpose, all-terrain vehicle of the Vietnam War. With over 100,000 produced from the late 1950s to the late 1980s, the MUTT served wherever US forces went throughout the Cold War. Replacing the Jeep, the MUTT appeared to be a typical ¼ ton, 4x4 utility truck, but it introduced notable innovations. Instead of the typical rigid axle system, the M151 featured independent suspension with coiled springs, an update that gave greater agility, a smoother ride, and faster speeds.

In addition, rather than a frame bolted to the body of the vehicle, the MUTT integrated the frame and body into a single unibody structure, making the truck slightly roomier and enabling greater ground clearance without compromising stability. The MUTT was extremely versatile, rugged enough to navigate deep mud and jungle and light enough to be carried in helicopters or dropped by parachute.
