One of the largest heavy-lift helicopters ever produced, use of the Pave Low stretches all the way back to the Vietnam War. Nicknamed the “Super Jolly Green Giant”, this massive helicopter was utilitarian in nature, fulfilling several roles including troop transport, air support, and special operations. Technologically advanced with the latest instruments for its day, the Pave Low helped guide other aircraft such as Apache helicopters through rough terrain to their targets. Before retirement in 2008, the Pave Low flew several combat and spec ops missions in both Iraq and Afghanistan with the United States Air Force.
