About the HX58 – Fuel Tanker:

General Omar Bradley famously stated, “amateurs talk strategy and professionals talk logistics.” This saying rings true when studying warfare. Those that fare well in war tend to better understand the intricacies of logistics. Over the course of human history, the mastering of the movement of men and supplies has become increasingly daunting. While advancements in technology have aided in the practice, the mass amount of stuff cannot be understated. Specialized vehicles are needed. Through the modernity of warfare, the ever-increasing need for fuel, not only that for soldiers, but the fuel needed for everything from trucks, tanks, and to jet airplanes is essential. Fuel Bowsers, essentially common trucks that have replaced their bed with a fuel tank, are as or even more essential than the standard truck. An army needs fuel as much as it needs food.

The HX58 line of 6x6 trucks of the renowned German manufacturer Rheinmetal consists of a family of high mobility logistic vehicles that are used to carry out a multitude of tasks and missions. While many of the models in the HX58 portfolio are used as standard utility trucks, specialized versions exist to handle the transportation of fuel. Permanent or semi-permanent military installations may have dedicated fuel depots, however, that doesn’t necessarily equate to easy access for all fuel-dependent vehicles. For example, jets cannot simply taxi to a gas nozzle like one does at gas station. Instead, fuel bowsers are needed to maneuver around an airfield to access the various fixed-wing aircraft. The HX58 is in use all over the world, with Rheinmetal subsidiaries being found in many countries. These trucks are even being used by Ukrainian forces, who have been supplied by many allied nations, including Germany. The Ukrainian military has been using a mixed bag of vehicles supplied by various countries to aid in their fight. With any armed conflict, logistics are paramount, and the HX58 fuel bowser is essential in that battle.
