About the F-35B Lightning II - STOVL Stealth Multirole Fighter:
A joint strike fighter, the F-35 is designed to accommodate a wide range of roles across three different U.S. military branches: Air Force, Navy, and Marines. The F-35B Short Take-Off/Vertical Landing (STOVL) is the Marine variant of the three, equipped with vertical take-off and stealth technology. As a joint strike fighter, the F-35B can be outfitted with a massive variety of armaments on each of its two internal pods and four external hardpoints. In September 2018, the U.S. military announced that the F-35B conducted its first combat mission with the Marines in Afghanistan, beginning a new era of fighter technology.
