The Drakkar was the biggest symbol of might and power at the time. It was the most important means of transport during the viking age. (Around 700’s-1000’s. Before the medieval times.) The viking ship was of a central precondition of political power and prestige, and in most cases, so was control of the seas.
This Drakkar build is based off a raiding ship, which was mostly used for combat. It’s a way of transporting your troops all the way onto shore, where you can attack from the ground. These ships were mostly made out of wood, and had a shallow bottom so it would rarely get stuck on reefs. The ship works well during tough wether conditions, as you can sail during wind, and your men can row at an easier sea. You can travel both at an open ocean, or in tight canals. They are more flexible than a larger war ship, giving the advantage of high speed and maneuverability, and they’re easy to set ashore. These ships could carry a huge amount of supplies, equipment, troops and even horses. The tactical advantage of a fleet of viking ships were invaluable.
Not all Viking ships were seen having carved dragon heads, as those would belong to the viking kings or chiefs.
