About the DPV:
The DPV (Desert Patrol Vehicle) previously known as the FAV (Fast Attack Vehicle) is a lightly armored high-speed sandrail-type vehicle. Due to excellent acceleration and off-road mobility, the DPVs were extensively used in Operation Desert Storm. The fast-paced nature of the war made the DPV indispensable to American forces.
The DPV’s rear-mounted air-cooled 200 hp (150 kW) Volkswagen engine enables it to travel roughly 200 miles on a 21-gallon fuel tank. The DPV has a range of about 210 miles and carries a payload of 1500 lbs. The uniquely mobile military vehicle fits into both urban and cross-country warfare, providing troops with the kind of mobility necessary for modern warfare.
The DPV includes 1 .50 cal M2 Browning, 2 M60s, and 2 M136 AT4 anti-armor weapons. The M60s may be replaced with a MK19 grenade launcher. M240s or M249 SAWs are also frequently used.
