The PKT is a solenoid-fired coaxial version of PK to replace the SGMT Goryunov vehicle-mounted machine gun. The PKT can fire up to 500 rounds in rapid fire before it has to be replaced for another barrel. The weapon remains in use as a front-line infantry and vehicle-mounted weapon with Russia's armed forces and has also been exported extensively and produced in several other countries under license.
